The challenge of clinically translating longevity science

A few years ago, I was speaking with a man who seemed especially spry and vigorous for his age. At one point, I asked him what his secret was for healthy aging. He seemed confused by my question and told me that he just had “good genetics”. I’m always surprised to encounter this way of thinking – that aging is a fixed, immutable process – given the amount of scientific evidence to the contrary. There’s no doubt that genetics matter, but lifestyle and environment also have star-level roles to play.
